Why Car Accidents Happen So Often in Palmdale

Palmdale’s road network wasn’t built for the traffic it carries now. The city has grown fast, and the roads haven’t kept up.

CA-14, the Antelope Valley Freeway, is the main connection between Palmdale and the rest of Los Angeles County. It’s a high-speed corridor with heavy commuter and commercial traffic. Rear-end crashes, sideswipes, and multi-vehicle pile-ups happen there regularly, especially during morning and evening rush hours when visibility can be poor and drivers are rushing.

Sierra Highway runs through the heart of Palmdale and sees constant traffic from residential neighborhoods, commercial areas, and commuters cutting through the city. Palmdale Boulevard, Rancho Vista Boulevard, Avenue S, and Avenue P all have busy intersections where drivers run lights, make dangerous turns, and misjudge speeds.

Pearblossom Highway connects Palmdale to the Inland Empire and carries a mix of commuters, trucks, and local drivers across a long stretch of two-lane road where head-on collisions and high-speed crashes occur more often than most people realize.

Desert driving conditions add another layer. Summer heat affects tire pressure and road surfaces. Sun glare during early morning and late afternoon commutes reduces visibility. Long stretches of open road lead some drivers to speed well beyond posted limits.

All of this explains why Palmdale consistently sees high accident rates compared to many other Los Angeles County communities.

Common Types of Car Accidents We Handle

Rear-End Collisions

The most common accident on Palmdale’s roads. Traffic on CA-14 slows suddenly. A driver isn’t paying attention. Impact. Even at moderate speeds, rear-end crashes cause real injury, whiplash, herniated discs, and soft tissue damage that takes weeks or months to fully appear.

California Vehicle Code § 22350 holds the following driver responsible when they are going too fast to stop safely. If you got hit from behind, the case is often clearer than people think.

Freeway Crashes on CA-14

High-speed crashes on the Antelope Valley Freeway are some of the most serious accidents we see. Multi-vehicle collisions, wrong-way drivers, commercial trucks losing control, all of these happen on CA-14 and can involve multiple liable parties including other drivers, trucking companies, and in some cases the government agencies responsible for road maintenance.

Hit and Run Accidents

Hit-and-run crashes are a significant problem in Palmdale. When the at-fault driver flees, your best option is usually your own uninsured motorist coverage. We can also help locate witnesses, request traffic camera footage, and in some cases identify the driver through other investigation methods.

Distracted and Drunk Driving Crashes

Texting, GPS navigation, eating, adjusting music, distracted driving causes a large percentage of Palmdale accidents. Drunk driving is also a real problem, especially on weekend nights along Palmdale Boulevard and near commercial areas. Both situations establish clear negligence and often support stronger claims.

Truck and Commercial Vehicle Accidents

Sierra Highway and CA-14 carry heavy commercial traffic. When a commercial truck is involved in a crash, the case becomes more complex. Multiple parties may be liable including the driver, the trucking company, the cargo loader, or the vehicle manufacturer. Federal trucking regulations add another layer of potential violations to investigate.

Uninsured and Underinsured Driver Accidents

This is a serious issue in Palmdale. A significant portion of drivers in the Antelope Valley carry no insurance or only the California minimum, which is $15,000 per person. If your medical bills exceed that limit, or if the at-fault driver has no insurance at all, your own uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage becomes critical. We help clients file these claims and fight their own insurance companies when needed.

Pedestrian, Bicycle, and Motorcycle Crashes

Pedestrians crossing Palmdale Boulevard near the Antelope Valley Mall, cyclists on Avenue S and Rancho Vista Boulevard, and motorcyclists sharing CA-14 with commercial trucks are all vulnerable. When they get hit, the injuries are serious. The law gives these victims strong protections, and the at-fault driver’s insurance is almost always responsible for full medical costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

Rideshare-Related Crashes

Uber and Lyft drivers operate throughout Palmdale, especially near commercial areas and the transit center. When a rideshare driver causes an accident, the coverage analysis is similar to other delivery and gig worker cases, it depends on the driver’s app status at the time of the crash. We handle these claims regularly.

What to Do After a Car Accident in Palmdale

The steps you take in the first few hours directly affect your claim.

  1. Call 911 and get medical attention. Even if you feel okay, get checked out. Adrenaline hides pain. Soft tissue injuries, concussions, and internal injuries often don’t show symptoms immediately. Medical documentation from the day of the accident is the foundation of your claim.
  2. Get the other driver’s information. Name, phone number, driver’s license number, license plate, vehicle make and model, insurance company, and policy number. If they won’t cooperate, get the plate and let the responding officer handle the rest.
  3. Take photos and video. Photograph both vehicles from every angle, the road surface, traffic signals, skid marks, weather conditions, and any visible injuries. Use your phone. The entire scene should be documented before anything is moved.
  4. File a police report. In Palmdale, that means calling the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Palmdale Station at (661) 272-2400 or calling 911 at the scene. Get the report number. That report is one of the most important pieces of evidence in your case.
  5. Get witness information. Anyone who saw the crash — name and phone number. Witnesses move, forget, and become harder to reach. Get their contact information on the spot.
  6. Don’t give recorded statements to insurance companies. The at-fault driver’s insurer will call you, sometimes within hours. They’re not calling to help you. They’re calling to gather information that can be used to reduce your payout. Be polite, tell them your lawyer will be in touch, and then actually call a lawyer.
  7. Contact us as soon as possible. Evidence disappears fast. Dashcam footage cycles over. Witness memories fade. The sooner we’re involved, the better position your case is in.

How Insurance Companies Handle These Claims

Insurance adjusters work for the insurance company, not for you. Their job is to settle your claim for as little as possible.

After a Palmdale car accident, here is what typically happens. The at-fault driver’s insurer calls you quickly while you’re still recovering. They ask questions about the accident, your injuries, and your medical history. They want a recorded statement before you understand the full extent of what you’re dealing with.

If you give that statement and minimize your injuries because you don’t want to exaggerate and you’re not sure yet how serious they are, they’ll use your own words to argue your injuries were minor.

Then come the tactics. They offer a quick settlement before you’ve finished treatment. They dispute whether your medical care was necessary. They argue you were partly at fault to reduce the payout under California’s comparative negligence rules. They request years of medical records looking for any prior injury they can use to challenge your claim.

When you have a lawyer, all of that changes. Adjusters behave differently when they know the case is being handled by someone who knows what they’re doing and won’t settle for less than the case is actually worth.

California Law and Your Case

Two years to file. Under California Code of Civil Procedure § 335.1, you have two years from the date of the accident to file a personal injury lawsuit. Miss that deadline and your case is almost certainly gone.

Six months for government claims. If your accident involved a government vehicle (Sheriff’s vehicle, city bus, public works truck) or was caused by a dangerous road condition maintained by a government agency, you must file a government tort claim within six months under Government Code § 911.2. This is a much tighter window and catches a lot of people off guard.

Comparative fault. California uses pure comparative negligence. Even if you were partly at fault for the accident, you can still recover compensation. If you were 25% at fault and your damages total $100,000, you recover $75,000. A lawyer can fight to minimize the fault assigned to you.

Traffic violations as evidence. Running a red light (CVC § 21453), speeding (CVC § 22350), unsafe lane change (CVC § 22107), DUI (CVC § 23152) all of these establish negligence and strengthen your case.

What Your Case May Be Worth

There’s no formula. What your case is worth depends on real factors.

  • Medical costs are the starting point. Every dollar you’ve spent on emergency care, imaging, surgery, physical therapy, and medication is recoverable. If your treatment is ongoing, the future costs matter too.
  • Lost income counts. Every day of work you missed because of your injuries has a dollar value. If the injury affects your ability to work long-term, that future income loss is also recoverable.
  • Injury severity matters. A fractured vertebra is worth more than a soft tissue strain. A traumatic brain injury is worth more than a fracture. The more serious and lasting the injury, the higher the potential recovery.
  • Liability clarity matters. If the other driver ran a red light on camera, your case is worth more. If liability is disputed, the value is affected.
  • Insurance coverage is a ceiling. If the at-fault driver has a $50,000 policy and your damages are $200,000, you may need to access your own underinsured motorist coverage to get the full amount. We analyze every available policy.

We don’t give inflated numbers. We give realistic assessments after reviewing your medical records and the facts of your accident.

I was recommended to Adrianos through my brother who knows him and said he’s done quality work in handling uber accidents over the years. Adrianos was kind enough to take my case during a bad situation I was in thanks to an uber accident and subsequent faulty treatment recommended by a previous lawyer who had no idea what he was doing. Thanks to Adrianos he was able to find me the right treatment for my injuries and pursue the correct compensation for the pain I endured. I would personally recommend Adrianos and his firm to anybody. Their communication, knowledge, & professionalism is top tier!
